Join acclaimed director, Thaddeus O'Sullivan, and Dr Lucy Davis, curator of Winston Churchill: The Painter, as they discuss the many facets of Sir Winston Churchill and his legacy on screen.

O'Sullivan's 2009 film, Into the Storm, centres on Brendan Gleeson's Emmy Award-winning portrayal of Churchill as a wartime leader, politician and devoted amateur painter. This special evening talk will investigate the themes at the heart of the film and our current exhibition, examining the public and private character of Britain's most famous wartime prime minister and the challenges of portraying such an iconic figure on screen.

About the speakers: Thaddeus O'Sullivan is one of the key figures in the development of modern Irish cinema. Emerging in the 1970s as part of a generation of independent filmmakers who helped establish a distinct Irish film industry, he has built an acclaimed directing career spanning film and television. His work includes December Bride (1990), Nothing Personal (1995) and the Emmy Award-winning drama Into the Storm (2009), which explored Winston Churchill's life and leadership at the end of the Second World War, including his passion for painting.

Dr Lucy Davis is Curator of Paintings at the Wallace Collection and co-curator of Winston Churchill: The Painter.
